Add to “My Favorites” (Beta testing)Totally right – 90 percent mental – 10 percent technique. Although getting the right technique as near to perfect all the time adds to the 90 percent mental. Kind Regards Stewart
Here, here to mental ability!!
Desire to land a jump is HUGE. I have seen skaters that land their jumps no matter what air position they rotate in. I call them ‘cats’ because they just always land on their feet. It has got to be because of their desire to land. The two double axels in this video analysis weren’t terribly off form and so it is understandable that if the desire was greater the one on the left would have been landed, too.
I really enjoyed the dartfish and quiz, as well as the result. Chris makes his presentations interesting and easy to understand. Thanks!
I knew the one on the right side will land, because I used to coach that skater, because he came to Madison. We did not actually hear analysis, fact is that the skater on the right has landed and I don’t think that’s only because of the willingness to land. Video analysisi can be tricky, it all depands which corner anmd angel the video is taken. From this angel it looks that Andrea is wrond in air. Go try to take video from dofferent angles and you will see that it has to do with positioning camer correct way.
Great demo with dartfish
This was a good video to watch. A lot of figure skating is physical, with the technique of each element, being performed properly, but if there is a mental block in any skater no matter what the element is, they will never be able to complete it.
When they first started ther double axel I thought the one on the left would land the double axel; because she jumped higher and had good form. The one on the right side I thought was to up straight.
Fabulous!! Great information!!! Thank you!
I thought the one on the right was going to land the jump because her shoulders were back checked the proper amount relative to her hips even though she was slightly off axis…. The one on the left’s shoulders were square(around) relative to her hips. The girl on the right essentially threw the ball at the moving car slightly ahead to hit the car where the girl on the left threw the ball where the car was and by the tine the ball got to the vicinity of the car, the car had already passed. The back check on the girl on the right anticipaated where the car would be in the future and she nailed it so to speak….
I also see a big difference at the ankle upon landing. Although the weight looks like it’s forward in the upper body, the heel comes down sooner on the falll and the angle is more straight suggesting the weight is actually more to the back of the foot.
It might confuse a skater to tell them to “stand up” on a landing if they actually need to flex their foot more.
