Add to “My Favorites” (Beta testing)Great tip – thanks for sharing
I really like the tent idea. Thank you.
Hmmmmm – Interesting Chris – I have never taught the “Magic Circle”, and have taught skaters from beginner to triple salchow and quad attempts. I like this “Magic Circle” though and I will try it on the ice for myself. Usually when I teach a double salchow my skater has a good enough base to be able to press on the left inside edge to curve it around allowing for take off. But obviously some skaters are more talented than others and I think your way will allow for that quick switch needed!!! Kind Regards – Stewart – UK Coach
This is great, Chris! Thanks for the breakdown off your development process, and seeing what we should expect from a less experienced skater.
I have three skaters currently developing their double salchow and they (along w/ my future 2-sal’ers) will benefit greatly from the knowledge I have just gained from this video!! I am going to take my notes w/ me to the rink so I don’t forget anything. Thanks!
I would like to see more videos on lower level skaters. I found it more helpfull to see “unperfect” skills.
Love the higher level AND LOWER LEVEL examples. Excellent.
Chris, it worked!!! Yesterday I finally was able to give my student in mind a lesson on her double salchow and after going through your development she was able to land it for the first time. Thanks again! I only wish I had a video of her reaction after she landed it for you to see….very excited 🙂
Chris, you are awesome! Thanks for the great tips. I have a skater who is working on her double salchow and this is great timing for me. I also have used the Nancy Kerrigan 6, 3, 9, but I love the magic circle! Thanks for all of you help!
I am always looking for new “wording” and ideas to keep my skaters interested in what they are doing. I love the wording of the “magic circle” as I teach alot of younger skaters. Thank you again for sharing your tips.
The magic circle is great, I will be able to put it to use today. Thanks Chris!
Wow – great exercises! I can’t wait to try them with my skaters. I have several skaters landing axels that are just starting their double sal so this is perfect for me. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing this step by step video…it’s the help that I’ve always wanted. I’ve only coaching experience of 2 1/2 years. I’m really excited to be able to introduce the drills in this video. At the moment, I’ve tried Nancy Kerrigan’s drill…using clock time code : 6, 3, 9 o’clock for the single salchow jump…it does help developmental skaters to control their body alignment and over rotation during the 3-turns. Hope you can share more step by step drills on other jumps, spins, combo spins, footwork sequences. Many thanks to all coaches who are so willing to share, I’ve gained alot more knowledge and confidence in my own coaching. From the bottom of my heart, all of you are great mentors to me. Skating is a path…so is coaching.
I appreciate your use of a secure and developmental skater. Very helpful!
[…] side-by-side but wide during this critical movement. This is similar to Chris Conte’s “magic circle” and it highlights the need to avoid letting the free foot come too far forward too soon […]
